Kavali Municipality conducted the Swachha Andhra–Swarna Andhra (SASA) Day Programme on the Third Saturday of July 2026 with the theme “Our City, Our Responsibility.”
The programme was organized at the Swachha Vignana Kendram, Kavali Municipality, with the objective of creating awareness among students and the public about sanitation, responsible waste management and their role in keeping the city clean and healthy.
The programme was led by the Municipal Commissioner, Kavali Municipality, who emphasized that cleanliness and sanitation are not the responsibility of the Municipality alone, but a shared responsibility of every citizen. The participation of the younger generation was given special importance to encourage responsible sanitation habits and create long-term behavioral change in the community.
School children and staff members from Vowel School, Railway Road, Kavali, attended the programme and actively participated in the awareness activities. The Municipal Commissioner administered the Swachhata Pledge to the students and Public Health Department staff members, reaffirming their commitment towards cleanliness, responsible waste management and a healthier Kavali.
During the programme, the Sanitary Inspector interacted with the school children and explained the importance of avoiding single-use plastic, preventing open littering, practicing source segregation of waste* and following responsible sanitation practices in daily life. The students were made aware that keeping roads, public places and neighborhoods clean begins with individual responsibility and responsible behavior.
The theme “Our City, Our Responsibility” was explained to the students as a simple but powerful message: every citizen has a role in protecting the cleanliness and environment of the city. Avoiding littering, reducing plastic usage, segregating waste at source and using public spaces responsibly are small actions that can create a significant collective impact.
As part of the programme, the students were taken on an educational visit to the Swachha Vignana Kendram and the RRR Centre. The students were introduced to the various sanitation and waste-management initiatives being undertaken by Kavali Municipality. Municipal staff explained the purpose and functioning of these facilities and demonstrated how citizens can participate in responsible waste management and contribute to the Municipality's cleanliness efforts.
The visit provided the students with an opportunity to understand that sanitation is not limited to street sweeping or waste collection. It involves a complete chain of responsible practices, beginning with waste reduction and source segregation and continuing through collection, processing, recovery and proper management of waste.
The Swachha Andhra–Swarna Andhra Day programme served as an important platform for connecting students, municipal staff and the community* with the broader vision of a clean, healthy and environmentally responsible Kavali.
The message of the programme was clear: a clean city cannot be created by the Municipality alone. It is created when every citizen takes ownership of their surroundings.
