Kavali Municipality observed Swachhandhra–Swarnandhra Day (SASA Programme) on the Third Saturday of May 2026 with the theme “Plastic-Free Andhra Pradesh".
The programme was conducted with the objective of creating greater awareness among citizens, traders, students, market communities and the general public about the harmful effects of plastic, particularly single-use plastics, and the importance of adopting environmentally responsible alternatives.
Plastic-Free Andhra Pradesh – A Collective Responsibility
Plastic pollution has become a major environmental and sanitation challenge. Single-use plastic bags and other disposable plastic materials often end up on roads, drains, open spaces and water bodies, affecting the cleanliness of urban areas and causing long-term environmental problems.
Under the Swachhandhra–Swarnandhra Day (SASA) Programme, Kavali Municipality used the occasion to reinforce the message that achieving a Plastic-Free Andhra Pradesh requires not only municipal action but also active participation and behavioural change among citizens.
Through awareness activities and community engagement, the Municipality encouraged people to:
- Say No to Single-Use Plastic
- Avoid unnecessary plastic consumption
- Use reusable bags and environmentally friendly alternatives
- Prevent plastic littering in public places
- Segregate waste at source
- Keep markets, roads and public spaces clean
- Become responsible partners in building a sustainable city
From Awareness to Behavioral Change
The objective of the programme goes beyond conducting a one-day awareness activity. Real change happens when awareness becomes a habit and responsible behaviour becomes part of everyday life.
Kavali Municipality continues to undertake awareness campaigns, rallies, IEC activities and field-level interventions to encourage citizens and businesses to reduce plastic usage and adopt sustainable alternatives.
The *Swachhandhra–Swarnandhra Day* programme therefore serves as an important platform to bring the community together and strengthen the collective commitment towards a cleaner, greener and healthier Andhra Pradesh.
Kavali Municipalities Commitment
Kavali Municipality remains committed to creating awareness, encouraging responsible waste management and promoting environmentally sustainable practices among citizens.
Plastic-Free Andhra Pradesh is not only a government goal — it is a responsibility shared by every citizen.
